How to use the built-in Split Screen tool in Microsoft Edge?

The split screen feature in the Microsoft Edge browser allows you to view two different web pages simultaneously within a single tab. This eliminates the need to constantly switch between tabs or open two independent windows side by side, which is especially convenient for research work, product comparison, or simultaneous reading and note-taking.

To use this feature, open the web page you want to place on the left half of the screen. On the browser toolbar, find the special Split Screen icon, which looks like a rectangle divided by a vertical line into two equal parts. If the icon is missing from the toolbar, click the three-dots button to open the main menu and select the corresponding option there.

After activating the feature, the current page will shift to the left, and a special panel will appear on the right suggesting you choose the second page from your history, favorites list, or recent tabs. You can also simply enter a new URL in the address bar of the right half. A slider will appear between the two open pages, which you can use to change the screen proportions, making one area wider and the other narrower depending on your current tasks.

To close the split screen mode, simply click the "X" in the upper right corner of one of the panels or click the split screen icon on the toolbar again. All open pages will remain available in your history or can be restored as separate tabs. This feature works stably and is optimized to save RAM, making it an excellent alternative to the operating system's standard window manager.
