What to do in case of a tick bite?

A tick bite requires immediate, yet calm and competent actions, as these insects are carriers of dangerous infections such as encephalitis and borreliosis. First of all, you must try to remove the parasite yourself if you do not have the opportunity to immediately go to a medical facility.

To do this, it is best to use a special tool that can be bought at a pharmacy, or regular tweezers. Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible, trying not to squeeze its abdomen so as not to push the contents into the wound. Carefully rotate the tick around its axis in any direction and simultaneously pull it upward smoothly.

After removing the parasite, thoroughly treat the bite site with any available antiseptic, such as chlorhexidine or alcohol, and wash your hands and the tool with soap. It is recommended to place the tick itself in a clean, airtight container with a damp piece of cotton and submit it to a laboratory for analysis to rule out infections.

Over the next thirty days, closely monitor your health and take your temperature. If a ring-shaped redness appears at the bite site, your temperature rises, or joint pain occurs, you should immediately consult an infectious disease specialist or therapist.
