How to help during an allergic reaction?

Allergic reactions can develop rapidly and take life-threatening forms, so it is important to act wisely and without delay. At the first symptoms of a mild allergy, such as a skin rash, itching, or mild tearing, it is necessary to take a proven systemic antihistamine, which will block the further release of histamine in the body.

The situation changes dramatically if signs of a systemic reaction or anaphylaxis appear. If there is pronounced swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or narrowing of the throat making breathing difficult, you must immediately call an ambulance.

If the victim has a diagnosed severe allergy and a special epinephrine auto-injector, you must immediately administer the medication into the anterolateral part of the thigh. This can be done right through clothing, following the instructions on the device packaging.

While waiting for medical assistance, lay the person on their back with their legs elevated to ensure blood flow to vital organs. If the victim starts vomiting, turn their head to the side to avoid choking. Closely monitor their breathing and general condition, and be ready to start cardiopulmonary resuscitation in case of loss of consciousness and cardiac arrest.
