How to help during a seizure?
Answer
The occurrence of a seizure in a person is a frightening condition that requires a correct and prompt reaction from those nearby. The main task of first aid is to prevent injuries and ensure the safety of the victim until medics arrive.
•Lay the person on a safe, flat surface, making sure there are no sharp objects, furniture, or stairs nearby that they could hit.
•Place something soft and flat under their head, such as a rolled-up jacket or bag, to prevent hitting the back of the head against the ground.
•It is strictly forbidden to hold down convulsive movements by force or try to unclench the teeth, as well as to shove spoons, fingers, and other objects into the mouth, as this can injure the jaw.
•After the seizure ends, gently turn the victim onto their side to ensure free breathing and prevent the tongue from blocking the airway or saliva from entering the respiratory tract.
•Be sure to note the start and end time of the seizure to accurately report this information to doctors.
If the seizure lasts longer than five minutes, repeats several times in a row without regaining consciousness, or happens for the first time, you must immediately call an ambulance. Medical help is also needed if the attack occurred in water or in a pregnant woman.
