What to do in case of a nosebleed?

A nosebleed is a common problem that anyone can encounter, yet many make dangerous mistakes when dealing with it. The main rule of first aid is to remain calm and adopt the correct body position.

First of all, the person should sit up straight and tilt their head slightly forward. It is strictly forbidden to throw the head back or lie down. When the head is thrown back, blood begins to flow down the back of the throat, which can cause nausea, vomiting, or blood entering the respiratory tract.

Then, you need to pinch the soft part of the nose with your fingers just below the bony septum. You should breathe through your mouth at this moment. This pressure must be maintained continuously for 10-15 minutes without checking every half minute whether the bleeding has stopped.

Additionally, you can apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in a cloth to the bridge of the nose. Cold causes blood vessels to constrict, which helps stop the bleeding faster. If the bleeding does not stop after 15 minutes of continuous pressure, severe weakness is observed, or the bleeding occurred after a head injury, you must seek medical help immediately.
