How to manage windows and use Split View without third-party apps in macOS?
Effective workspace organization on a Mac screen is critical for productive work, especially if you are using multiple applications simultaneously. macOS has a built-in powerful window management tool called Split View, which allows you to place two applications on one screen without having to manually resize them and drag them into corners.
To activate this mode, hover your mouse cursor over the green circular button in the upper-left corner of any window or hold it down for a second. In the menu that appears, select the option to place the window on the left or right side of the screen. After that, the system will automatically prompt you to fill the remaining half of the screen with another open application by displaying thumbnails of available programs.
You can also easily change the screen split proportions by dragging the black vertical divider in the middle to the desired side. To exit Split View mode, simply press the Escape key on your keyboard or click the green button in the title bar of either of the two active windows again, after which they will return to their normal floating state.
For more advanced window management, you can use Mission Control and Spaces desktops, creating separate spaces for different tasks. Swipe up with three or four fingers on your trackpad to see all open windows and virtual desktops, and drag applications between them to group them by usage context.
