How to make a Time Machine backup?

Answer

Regularly creating backups using the built-in Time Machine utility is the best way to protect important data from loss in case of hardware failure or system crash. To get started, you will need an external hard drive or network storage whose capacity exceeds the size of your internal drive.

Connect the selected external disk to your computer, then go to System Settings and find the Time Machine section. In the window that opens, click the button to add or select a backup disk and specify the connected external device as the target drive for backups.

After completing the initial setup, the utility will start working completely automatically. The system will create hourly backups for the last day, daily backups for the last month, and weekly backups for all other periods until the external disk runs out of free space.

In case data recovery is needed, the process also looks as transparent and well-thought-out as possible.

Connect the backup disk to the Mac.
Boot the computer into recovery mode by holding down certain key combinations upon startup.
Select the Restore from Time Machine Backup option and follow the on-screen instructions to return the system to the desired state.

Using Time Machine ensures that your photos, documents, and settings are never lost permanently.
