How to enable and use Read Aloud in Microsoft Edge?

The Read Aloud feature in the Microsoft Edge browser is a powerful speech synthesis tool that allows you to read out the content of web pages, emails, and PDF documents. This capability is useful for people with visual impairments, as well as for those who prefer to perceive information by ear while performing other tasks or want to give their eyes a rest after long computer work.

To launch this tool, open the desired web page in the browser. Then press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl plus Shift plus U or right-click on an empty space on the page and select the menu item named Read Aloud. You can also click the special icon with a speaker and letters that appears in the address bar of supported sites.

After launching the feature, a small control panel will appear at the top of the page. With it, you can pause playback at any time, resume it, and jump to the next or previous paragraph of text. The browser will automatically highlight each spoken word, which helps keep track of the reading progress and improves concentration.

You can easily adjust the voice and playback speed to your personal preferences. To do this, click the Voice options icon on the control panel. The following actions are available in the menu that opens:

After listening is complete, you can close the control panel by clicking the cross in the right corner or simply closing the tab. Voice and speed settings are automatically saved for subsequent sessions of using the feature.
