How to do the splits?
Achieving the goal of doing the splits requires time, patience, and a systematic approach. The main rule here is regularity; it is much better to practice every day or at least every other day for 15-20 minutes than to do hour-long workouts once a week. Each session must start with a proper warm-up, including cardio exercises and dynamic stretching, to increase body temperature and tissue elasticity.
The process of developing flexibility should proceed through a gradual increase in the range of motion without sudden and painful sensations. Pain is a signal of the body's defense reaction, causing muscles to spasm even more, which only pushes you further away from your result. Work on the verge of mild discomfort and breathe deeply to help the nervous system relax in the desired position.
Remember that the path to the splits takes months, and sometimes years of practice, not days or weeks. The speed of progress largely depends on your genetics, the structural features of your hip joints, your initial physical fitness level, and your age. Do not compare your results with the successes of other people, but focus exclusively on your own body and its gradual changes.
To accelerate progress, it is useful to use auxiliary equipment such as yoga blocks, straps, and blankets. They allow you to fix a safe position if you don't yet have enough flexibility to lower yourself all the way to the floor. Over time, the body adapts to the loads, ligaments and tendons become more pliable, and you will notice steady progress toward achieving the coveted splits.
