How to disable autoplay for videos in Firefox?

Automatic playback of video and audio on websites often causes annoyance, consumes extra traffic, and distracts the user's attention with loud commercials. The Mozilla Firefox browser provides a convenient and flexible setting that allows you to completely block unwanted media content on all resources. This tool saves you from having to manually stop videos on every new page.

To change autoplay settings, open the main menu of the program using the three-line icon in the upper right corner of the screen. In the list that appears, select Settings, which will open the full browser control panel in a new tab. In the left column, find the Privacy & Security tab and go to it.

Scroll down the page to the section called Permissions, which is responsible for site access to your camera, microphone, geolocation, and other system resources. Next to the Autoplay item, click the Settings button located to the right. A small additional window for managing multimedia behavior in the browser will appear on the screen.

In the window that opens, find the Default for all websites drop-down list and change it to Block Audio and Video. After applying this setting, any videos and audio tracks on unfamiliar sites will stop launching automatically when the page is opened. If you need to make an exception for certain trusted resources, such as video hosting sites or online cinemas, you can manually add them to the allowed list using the interface of this same window.
