How to enable dark mode in Chrome?

Using a dark theme in the Google Chrome browser reduces eye strain when working in low-light conditions and helps save battery power on mobile devices and laptops with OLED screens. Adjusting the interface appearance takes just a few seconds and does not require installing third-party software.

To change the default theme to dark, open the main menu of the program. Click on the three-dot icon in the upper right corner of the interface and go to Settings, which will open the browser settings management page.

In the left column of settings, select the Appearance section, which is responsible for the visual design of the user interface. In the opened central part of the page, find the theme settings block and click on it to view available options.

In the list that appears, you can select the Dark option, after which the tab strip, menu, homepage, and new tab page will instantly switch to a dark color scheme. Also available here is the Device theme mode, which automatically adjusts the browser theme to your operating system's current settings.

It is worth noting that the default browser theme affects only the application's interface itself, but does not always change the styling inside visited websites. If you want to make the web pages themselves dark, it is recommended to install the official Dark Reader extension from the Chrome Web Store, which automatically inverts colors on any sites.
