Walls and floors: how to remove cracks and chips on plaster?
Eliminating cracks and chips on plaster requires accuracy and adherence to the correct technological sequence. For effective work with wall defects, create a special checklist in which you write down all the necessary purchases, the sizes of damages, and a list of required tools. This approach will help you control the process and avoid unnecessary financial expenses on buying unnecessary materials.
Before starting repairs, the crack needs to be widened using a putty knife or utility knife at an angle of forty-five degrees. This is done so that the repair composition reliably fills not only the surface, but also the entire depth of the damage. Thoroughly remove all generated dust and small particles with a vacuum cleaner or a damp brush.
Apply a high-quality deep penetration primer in two layers with intermediate drying to the prepared and widened crack. To reinforce deep cracks, be sure to use a special fiberglass mesh tape or fiberglass. This will prevent the reappearance of cracks in the same place during building shrinkage or temperature changes.
Fill the recess with gypsum or cement putty depending on the type of original plaster on the wall. Apply the composition with a small margin in height, as materials can shrink slightly when drying. After complete drying, sand the repaired area with sandpaper flush with the rest of the wall surface.
Recording all work stages and tracking expenses in the checklist will allow you to evaluate the effectiveness of repairs and prevent possible mistakes. Be sure to check the flatness of the repaired area using a building rule or level before applying the finish coat. Such a systematic approach guarantees the durability and aesthetics of your walls for years to come.
