How to fix a hole in a wall?

The process of fixing holes in a wall depends on the size of the damage and the material of the wall itself, so each situation requires its own approach. First, determine the diameter and depth of the hole to choose the right materials and tools for the job.

If it is a small hole from a nail or screw, you will need minimal effort. Scoop a little finishing putty on your finger or a small putty knife and gently press it into the recess. After the composition dries, sand this area with fine-grained sandpaper until perfectly smooth.

For medium-sized holes up to five centimeters, a more reliable technology for filling the void is required. To prevent the putty from falling inward, fill the hole from the inside with crumpled paper or mounting foam, leaving a recess for the top layer. Apply the putty in several thin layers, drying each of them thoroughly before applying the next one.

Large through-holes or serious damage require installing a drywall patch. Cut a piece of material to fit the shape of the defect, secure it to wooden or metal slats inserted into the opening, and fill the joints with reinforcing tape. If you are working with a concrete wall, it is better to use a special cement mortar or ready-made repair mixture for deep chips.

The final stage of any repair work is preparing the surface for finishing. Be sure to prime the repaired area to improve adhesion, and then paint it to match the color of the main wall or wallpaper it. Always check the compatibility of the selected materials with the type of your wall base.
