How to manage fonts using the Font Book app and change system typography settings in macOS?

The Font Book application in the macOS operating system is designed for installing, removing, validating, and organizing fonts used in all text editors, graphics packages, and operating system interfaces.

To install a new font on your Mac, double-click the font file with the TTF or OTF extension, after which the Font Book preview window will open. Click the Install Font button at the bottom of the window, and the file will be automatically added to the system library and become available in all programs.

For convenient management of large font collections, you can create custom groups and collections within the app. Click the plus icon on the sidebar, enter the collection name, and drag the required fonts there, which will allow you to quickly enable or disable font sets for specific design projects.

Sometimes after installing fonts, users encounter incorrect text display or system conflicts. To fix this, open Font Book, select the Menu item in the top panel of the screen, go to the File section, and select the Validate Font feature, which will automatically find damaged files and prompt you to remove or fix them.

In addition to installation, you can completely remove unused system or third-party fonts to free up the system. Right-click the unnecessary font or use the context menu to select the Remove item, and the system will move the font files to the Trash, freeing up space on the drive and preventing clutter in the typeface lists within applications.
