What are template literals?

Template literals are a powerful syntactic tool in JavaScript that significantly simplify working with string data compared to traditional single or double quotes. This mechanism is built into the modern language standard and is actively used in all frontend and backend frameworks.

The first key advantage is the use of backticks instead of regular quotes, inside of which you can freely place text of any length and complexity.

The second important benefit is built-in interpolation, which allows you to insert variables and expressions directly inside the string using a special syntax with a dollar sign and curly braces. This completely frees developers from cumbersome string concatenation using the plus operator, making the code much more readable.

The third feature is out-of-the-box support for multiline strings. Thanks to template literals, you no longer need to use special newline characters or manually glue together multiple text fragments to output large blocks of information.

The fourth property makes it possible to evaluate any complex expressions directly inside the curly braces. These can be mathematical operations, calls to other functions, or ternary operators to display different text depending on the current conditions of program execution.

The fifth feature, aimed at advanced developers, is tagged templates. They allow passing a template literal to a special tag function for text preprocessing, which is actively used in localization libraries or for secure HTML data escaping to prevent vulnerabilities.

In practice, using template literals makes the source code concise and less prone to syntax errors. They are indispensable when creating dynamic HTML templates inside client-side applications or when forming complex logging strings for software debugging.
