How to back up a browser profile?

Creating a backup of your web browser's profile is an essential procedure to ensure the safety of personal data, such as saved passwords, browsing history, installed extensions, and personal settings. Regular backups will protect you from data loss in the event of an operating system crash, virus attack, or corruption of the browser's system files. The process of creating a copy does not require special technical skills, but is performed individually for each program.

The first step is to determine the exact location of the user profile folder on your computer. To do this, open your browser and go to the special service page by entering the appropriate query in the address bar. In Chromium-based browsers such as Google Chrome, Yandex Browser, or Microsoft Edge, enter the address chrome://version, and in Mozilla Firefox, use the address about:profiles. On the page that opens, find the Profile Path or Root Directory line, which will indicate the full path to the folder with your data in the computer's file system.

Next, close the browser completely, making sure in the Task Manager that the program's background processes are not running, to avoid file corruption during copying. Open your operating system's file manager, navigate to the path copied earlier, and find the required profile folder, which is usually named Default or has an alphanumeric name for Firefox. Copy this folder entirely to an external drive, cloud storage, or a secure partition of the hard drive not associated with the system drive C.

To restore data from the created backup, perform the procedure in reverse order. Completely close the browser, open the current profile folder, and replace its contents with the pre-saved files from the backup. Remember that the built-in cloud synchronization function also serves as a reliable method for automatic data backup, saving you from having to perform manual operations every time you change settings.
