Performance: how to find tabs/extensions that are loading the CPU?

Finding a tab or extension that is putting excessive load on the central processing unit and causing computer freezes requires a systematic approach and the use of built-in resource monitoring tools.

Start your diagnostics with basic steps: update your browser to the latest version, completely clear the cache and cookies for the problematic site, and temporarily disable all installed extensions one by one to identify the potential source of the problem.

To accurately identify resource-intensive processes, any modern browser provides its own built-in task manager, which can be opened using the Shift and Esc keyboard shortcuts or through the main program menu under additional tools.

In the opened task manager window, you will see a detailed list of all open tabs, extensions, and background processes indicating the exact amount of RAM consumed, CPU load, and network activity.

Carefully examine the CPU column metrics: if a tab or extension is constantly consuming a significant share of processor resources, select this item with the left mouse button and click the End Process button at the bottom of the window.
