Water: how to plan laundry and the dishwasher to save money?
Efficient planning of the operation of washing machines and dishwashers can significantly reduce utility costs, especially if you approach the distribution of resources wisely. The principle of optimizing household processes works according to the eighty-twenty rule, where you must first solve the main tasks of saving water and electricity, and only then improve the rest of the details of everyday life.
The first step to saving is the maximum load of both machines. Never run the washing machine or dishwasher half-empty, as they spend the same amount of water and energy regardless of the volume of laundry or dishes. Wait for a full load, but remember the manufacturer's permissible weight limits so as not to overload the equipment and not reduce the washing quality.
The second important factor is the use of the night electricity tariff if a multi-rate meter is installed in your house. Modern models of household appliances are equipped with a delayed start function. Program the start of washing and dishwashing for the night time, when the cost of a kilowatt-hour is significantly lower, which will reduce the amount on the monthly bill.
The third step is to introduce the correct choice of temperature regimes and programs. For everyday washing, a temperature of thirty or forty degrees is quite enough instead of sixty, as modern powders and gels cope well with dirt in cool water. In the dishwasher, use the eco-mode, which takes longer in time, but heats the water to a lower temperature, saving both water and electricity.
