Joint mobility: what is the difference between mobility and stretching?
Many people confuse the concepts of stretching and mobility, although there are fundamental differences between them that affect the quality of movement. Stretching, or flexibility, is responsible for the passive lengthening of muscles and tendons under the influence of external force, while mobility is the ability of a joint to move through its full anatomical range of motion under the control of its own nervous system.
To develop and maintain joint mobility, experts recommend starting with a clear goal and regular sessions two to three times a week. At the initial stage, it is important to focus on mastering basic movements and impeccable exercise technique, without trying to immediately take the maximum amplitude or add weight.
You should progress in mobility smoothly, gradually increasing the load, the number of repetitions, or the holding time of a position, as well as recording your successes in a training diary. This systematic approach effectively protects against stagnation in results and allows the joints to adapt to new requirements without the risk of injury.
To harmoniously develop the body, skillfully combine strength and cardio workouts with joint mobility routines. At the same time, full recovery, including quality sleep and a balanced diet, must become an integral part of your overall wellness plan.
