[ITEM 3] QUESTION: Safety for women: what to do in case of harassment?
Encountering harassment or unwanted attention during travel is an unpleasant experience that requires a clear and cold-blooded reaction. The main task in such a situation is to attract the attention of others, stop any attempts at physical contact, and leave the dangerous zone as quickly as possible.
If someone allows themselves verbal insults, obsessive stalking, or obscene gestures, you should not silently endure it or try to smooth over the incident with a smile, as this can be perceived as weakness. Loudly and confidently say no in the local or English language, show determination, and attract the attention of passersby or staff of the nearest establishment.
In case of physical contact or a direct threat to safety, use any available self-defense methods, scream, call for help, and run towards the nearest crowded place, shop, hotel, or police station. Do not hesitate to look too loud or scandalous, as your personal safety and health always come first.
After you find yourself in a safe place, be sure to write down all the details of what happened, the abuser's description, and the exact address, if necessary for contacting the tourist police. Make it a rule to follow the golden rule of time distribution: keep seventy percent of the route under strict control and planning, and leave thirty percent for spontaneity and full relaxation.
Do not be afraid to ask for help from hotel staff, guides, or local rescue services, as most tourist centers have a developed system of traveler support. Maintain emotional balance and remember that any incident can be overcome if you act quickly, decisively, and rely on pre-prepared contacts.
