Replacing an old faucet in the kitchen or bathroom is a standard procedure that is well within your power to perform yourself, saving your family budget. This does not require a professional education; it is enough to have a minimal set of tools on hand and strictly follow the instructions. Before starting work, be sure to prepare a new faucet, flexible supply lines, an adjustable wrench, Teflon (PTFE) tape for sealing, and a small basin to collect residual water.
•Shut off the supply of hot and cold water using the valves on the risers, and then open the lever of the old faucet to relieve residual pressure and drain the remaining water from the system.
•Place the prepared basin under the sink and carefully unscrew the union nuts of the flexible supply hoses from the water pipes using an adjustable wrench.
•Unscrew the mounting nut or studs that fix the faucet to the sink body from below, using a long wrench or a socket of the appropriate size.
•Carefully remove the old faucet along with the supply lines through the hole in the sink from above, having previously cleaned the mounting seat from dirt, limescale, and rust.
•Prepare the new faucet, screw the flexible supply lines into its body manually, and then slightly tighten them with a wrench, trying not to damage the rubber O-rings.
•Install the sealing gasket on the base of the new faucet, pass the hoses through the mounting hole of the sink, and fix the faucet with the mounting element from below.
•Connect the free ends of the flexible supply lines to the cold and hot water supply pipes, be sure to use sealing tape or new gaskets to prevent leaks.
•Smoothly open the water valves on the risers and thoroughly check all connections for leaks by leaving the water running for a few minutes.
If during the initial testing you find drops of water at the connections, slightly tighten the nuts with a wrench, but do not overdo it so as not to strip the threads. Experts recommend always replacing old flexible supply lines with new ones along with the faucet, as rubber loses its elasticity over time and can burst. After successfully completing the installation, wipe the chrome surfaces with a dry cloth and enjoy the result of the work done.
