Removing stains·8 questions

QUESTION: How to remove a grease stain from clothing?

Answer

Grease stains on clothing can ruin your favorite item, but dealing with them is quite realistic if you know the right cleaning methods. Success depends on how fresh the contamination is, so it is important to notice the problem in time and choose the appropriate treatment method.

Regular liquid dish soap is great for removing a fresh grease mark. Apply a few drops of the gel directly onto the stained area, gently rub it in with your fingers or a soft brush, and leave it for fifteen to thirty minutes to break down the fats, after which wash the item in warm water.

If the stain has managed to dry, the approach changes.

Sprinkle the problem area with a thick layer of baking soda or potato starch.
Thoroughly rub the powder into the fabric and leave it overnight so it absorbs the old grease.
In the morning, shake off the remaining soda and repeat the procedure using dish soap.

For delicate fabrics such as silk or wool, aggressive gels are not suitable. In this case, use talcum powder or regular baby powder using the same overnight method. Be sure to check the result after washing and never tumble dry the item until the stain has completely disappeared, otherwise the high temperature will set the grease forever.
